Whittier's ceremonial groundbreaking features students and local, TPS leadership

Excitement - and dirt - were in the air as Whittier Elementary students broke ground on their new school Wednesday, May 27, 2026! 

Students were joined by TPS Board Member Dr. Shawna Freeman Lane, Whittier Principal Ben Schau, Fircrest Mayor Nikki Bufford, and Cornerstone Contractor Chris Babbit as speakers.

Whittier Elementary is one of eight school replacements or historic renovations funded by the $535 million school construction bond voters passed in 2020.
